At Clarksburg Contractors, we have extensive experience in the HVAC industry, including experience working on both standard furnaces and heat pumps. Although heat pumps offer several advantages, they can also break down just like any other heating and cooling system. In this article, we’ll go over a few ways to tell if you need heat pump repair.

How to Tell if You Need Heat Pump Repair

  • Unusual Sounds or Odors – Some early warning signs you need heat pump repair are strange noises or smells coming from your system. If your heat pump starts to rattle and screech when it runs, then we encourage you to give us a call to have our technicians inspect it. Similarly, if rotten, musty, or burning smells start to emerge from your vents, then you should call us right away.
  • Constant Running – When your heat pump is working properly, it should cycle on and off like a traditional furnace or air conditioning unit—it should run until the air in your home reaches your desired temperature, then turn off again until the temperature dips below your specified threshold. Your heat pump is not supposed to run all the time, so if your pump never shuts off or cools down, you have a problem.
  • Lack of Heat – Lastly, the clearest sign you need a heat pump repair is a lack of heat in your home. (Or, in the summer, a lack of effective cooling, since heat pumps are designed to provide both.) If your home is not getting or staying warm enough, please give our team a call so we can get to work on providing heat pump repair.

If you notice these or any other signs that your heat pump is malfunctioning, just give us a call to get our repair team on the job.
