Air conditioning has become an important part of our everyday lives during the warmer months of the year. It helps us to stay cool and comfortable, and it even helps to control indoor humidity. However, relying too heavily on air conditioning can lead to high energy use and increased energy bills as a result. If you wish to keep your air conditioning usage under control, we’re here to help.

Four Tricks to Avoid Relying Heavily on Your Air Conditioning

Here are four tricks you can try to avoid relying too heavily on your air conditioning:

  1. Use ceiling or tower fans. Ceiling fans and tower fans use much less energy than air conditioning does, so they can be extremely helpful alternatives when you want to cool off without overworking your air conditioner. They cost less to operate, and their upfront cost is much lower, too.
  2. Cover your windows. If you want to keep your home cool, don’t let the sun heat it up by keeping all your window blinds or curtains open. Close them in the rooms you’re not using. You should still be able to enjoy the natural light when you want to, but there’s no need to let in more sunlight than you need.
  3. Upgrade to LED lighting. Some light bulbs, such as incandescent light bulbs, may heat up your home when you turn on the switch. If you switch these out for LED light bulbs, you’ll use less energy, and you won’t have to deal with the excess heat.
  4. Avoid lots of baking or cooking. Baking or cooking when it’s hot out is a sure way to make your home feel like a sauna. Avoiding it will help to keep your home cool, but when you do decide to do these activities, maybe try using fans like we mentioned earlier.
